How To Change Hyundai Windshield Wipers

It is easy to forget certain car parts, such as the windshield wipers, especially during warm weather or summertime. However, during rainy or snowy months, you want to ensure your windshield wipers are functioning correctly, as they are needed the most during these periods. Hyundai Windshield wipers are made of rubber, so they may wear out naturally after many months of wiping dust, rain, and snow from your windshield. When this happens, you can visit a nearby mechanic to have them changed or decide to change them yourself at home. If you choose the latter, read on to learn a step-by-step guide to changing your Hyundai windshield wipers safely and efficiently.

Know the Part of the Blade that Needs Replacement

Hyundai windshield wipers have three components: the lower wiper arm extending from the base of the Hyundai windshield, the plastic blade or metal attached to the lower arm, and a rubber blade that comes in direct contact with the windscreen for wiping. The part that gets worn down by inclement weather and water is the rubber blades, and that's the part you need to change.

Take Measurements of the Blade Size Needed and Purchase Replacement Blades

One important piece of information you should have when changing your Hyundai windshield wipers is the exact length of the rubber blade of your wiper. This information is necessary as you will need to purchase new rubber blade replacements of the same size. You can check your vehicle's manual or measure the blades yourself to get this information. If you choose the latter, take measurements of the rubber blades to be replaced using a measuring tape or a ruler. Jot down the precise measurement, then purchase rubber blades in any auto parts store in those exact sizes.

Note: The left and right blades are often not the same sizes, so you must take two separate measurements.

Installing New Hyundai Windshield Wipers

Step 1: Lift the metal wiper arm into the air, away from the windshield. The metal wiper arm could snap back and damage your windshield, so you must be careful and ensure it's held steady at an angle perpendicular to your vehicle's windshield.

Step 2: Take off the old wiper blade. Unhook the old rubber wiper blade at the joint where it meets the metal arm to separate them. During this process, ensure you protect your windshield by holding the wiper with one hand or covering your windshield with a thick folded towel.

Step 3: Position the new wiper. Insert the replacement wiper into the exact position where you removed the old wiper. Carefully revolve the new rubber wiper till the hook snaps into its position to hold it in place. Gently rest your new Hyundai wiper back against the windshield.

Step 4: Repeat the exact steps for the other wiper. Ensure you use the correct wiper size for both sides.
